Jack Resnick & Sons today announced an agreement with luxury clothing boutique Workshop to open a new location at 485 Madison Avenue, its 25-story office tower located in the heart of Manhattan’s prestigious Plaza District.
Led by owner/designer Ron Shahar, Workshop offers custom-made women’s apparel, outerwear, and accessories made from the finest leather, suede, fur and shearling. As part of a 10-year lease, Workshop will occupy 654 square feet of retail space with 13 feet of prime store frontage on Madison Avenue at 52nd Street. Workshop has officially opened its doors to customers as of this month.
Workshop is the second high-end fashion retailer to commit to 485 Madison in recent months. Swiss shoemaker Le Majordome opened its first flagship store in the U.S. in November. Both shops join two established, first-class restaurants at the property: iconic Italian eatery Fresco by Scotto and Gregory’s Coffee.
“This transaction reinforces the enduring appeal of Madison Avenue retail in Midtown,” said Jonathan Resnick, President of Jack Resnick & Sons. “Workshop’s new boutique is an ideal complement to our retail mix at 485 Madison Avenue.”
Jack Resnick & Sons was represented in-house by Managing Director Adam Rappaport. Asking rent was $300 per square foot.
With these two recent leases, the retail portion of 485 Madison is approaching full occupancy. According to Rappaport, just one 1,850 square-foot retail space remains available. Resnick is also marketing a 5,700 square-foot pre-built office suite on a portion of the building’s 17th floor, which is available immediately. An additional 4,200 square-foot recently-built space on the 12th floor will be available as of August 1, 2022.
Built in 1929 and designed by architect J.E.R. Carpenter, 485 Madison Avenue was acquired by Jack Resnick & Sons in 1976. The distinctive 25-story, 305,675 square-foot building features a double-height, stone lobby with soaring, wrap-around wood panels, and an original, Henry Moore bronze sculpture. The property has achieved Gold certification under the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED rating system, as well as WiredScore Gold and EnergyStar certifications. The building is currently home to office tenants such as Signature Bank, Janover and Pembrook Capital Management.
