Democracy Prep charter school growing NYC presence

The Harlem-founded Democracy Prep New York Charter School is
opening a new outpost in the Bronx.

Michael Muffoletto, principal of The Brocor Group, announced
the school has leased the 32,240 s/f, two-story property at 1529 – 1539
Williamsbridge Road for its newest school.

Built by local developer Anthony Martello in 1999, the
property has been occupied on a NNN lease for the past 30 years by Leake and
Watts Services, a not-for-profit social services agency.

Democracy Prep New York Charter School signed a two-year lease with a three-year option for the highly-visible property situated near the Hutchinson Metro Center in the Westchester Square neighborhood.

Muffoletto represented the ownership in the lease transaction.
Jake Cinti, Alexander Smith and Lindsay Ornstein of Transwestern represented  DPNYCS.

Founded in 2005, Democracy Prep opened its first school in
2006. By 2009, DPCS became the highest performing school in Central Harlem and
was ranked the number one public middle school in New York City.

Democracy Prep Public Schools currently operates 21 schools
and one program in New York, New Jersey, Baton Rouge, Las Vegas, and San
Antonio educating 6,500 scholars.   In 2016, DPPS received a second round of
expansion funding from the federal government along with a mandate to educate
over 10,000 scholars by the end of the 2020-21 school year.

The school continues to explore opportunities to partner
with communities looking to expand the availability of high quality public
school options for low-income students.
