The Arker Companies and Omni New York have partnered to give away more than 2,625 turkeys to New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) residents in nine developments across Brooklyn.
The Arker Companies, Omni New York and other partners were selected last year to repair, refurbish, and manage these nine NYCHA sites as part of the Permanent Affordability Commitment Together (PACT) program.
For the second year running, the turkey donations will lift the spirits of over 2,000 New York City families. In light of the unique nature of 2020, the donations will adhere to COVID-19 guidelines through a socially distanced event and staff will maintain proper PPE.
“Last year, we gave away more than 2,600 turkeys to New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) residents in nine developments across Brooklyn, and this year we are honored to have the opportunity to do that again, specifically during a time of such hardship,” said Simon Bacchus of The Arker Companies.
“Arker is excited and eager to continue our work as a partner with NYCHA and continue offering residents support and resources.”
David Fleming, Executive Director of Development of Omni New York, added, “We are grateful for the opportunity to provide these families and households with a little joy and gift during the holiday and for Thanksgiving. Looking forward, we hope to be able to continue this tradition for others in the years to come.”
“As we enter the cold months of the winter, eight months into this pandemic, people are continuing to struggle day after day, with people out of work and some finding it hard to put food on the table. These turkeys are an effort to give a little light to these NYCHA residents as we head into Thanksgiving” said Armstrong Houses Tenant Association President Stephen Davis.
“People can smile now, while sitting down with their Thanksgiving meal. We appreciate the Arker Companies for doing this two years in a row, and we hope to continue the tradition, building solid relationships with the new management.”
